Another Compounding Pharmacy Recalls All Sterile Products Due to Concerns About Quality Control and Infection Risk

Every sterile drug product compounded, repackaged, and distributed nationwide by Green Valley Drugs is being recalled due to lack of sterility assurance and concerns associated with the quality control processes. The recall of sterile products is conducted based on observations of clean room personnel and certain aseptic techniques.

If a sterile product is compromised, patients are at risk for serious and possible life threatening infections

Green Valley Drugs sterile products covered under this recall were distributed nationwide. Until further notice, health care providers should stop using all lots of sterile products and return them to the company.

“State authorities who are supposed to oversee the type of specialized pharmacy [involved in this recall and] at the heart of last fall’s deadly meningitis outbreak lack the most basic information about the companies they are supposed to regulate.” See the Washington Post article (link below): Compounding Pharmacies Go Untracked, Lena H. Sun, Washington Post, April 14, 2013. See also the recent congressional report by Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) (link below).
