Multiple Brands of Tuna Recalled Due to Loose Seals that Could Lead to Contamination by Food-Borne Pathogens


Two major distributers of canned tuna products, Bumble Bee Foods and Tri-Union Seafoods, have recalled specific tuna and white albacore products. The recall has been issued because the seals on the cans are not sufficiently tight. Loose seals or seams could result in product contamination by spoilage organisms or pathogens and lead to illness if consumed.

 

Bumble Bee Foods recalled the following products:

  • Brunswick Brand 5oz Chunk Light Tuna in Water
  • Bumble Bee Brand 5oz Chunk Light Tuna in Water
  • Bumble Bee Brand 5oz Chunk Light Tuna in Vegetable Oil
  • Bumble Bee Brand 5oz Chunk White Albacore in Water
  • Bumble Bee Brand 5oz Chunk Light Tuna in Water – 4-Pack Cluster
  • Bumble Bee Brand 5oz Chunk White Albacore in Water – 8-Pack Cluster
  • Bumble Bee Brand 5oz Chunk White Albacore in Water – 8-Pack Cluster

 

These products were distributed for retail sale nationwide between January 17, 2013 and March 6, 2013.

 

Tri-Union Seafoods recalled Chicken of the Sea Brand 5-ounce chunk white albacore tuna in water Chicken of the Sea brand 5-ounce chunk light tuna in oil. These products were distributed for retail sale nationwide between February 4, 2013 and February 27, 2013.
